Email: marcs (at) astro.uu.seFrequently Asked Questions (or at least Questions we Expect to Receive):
- How do I unpack the tar file?
If you are on a UNIX system you type "tar -xvf file_name". This recreates the individually gzipped files with their complete names. These are unpacked to plain ascii text files by the command "gunzip *.gz" If you are on a WINDOWS/Mac system you may have to get software for this, e.g. the "Stuffit expander". In order to read and store the plain ascii text files in a useful format the "Emacs" editor is useful. Links to these programmes are given in "Software". (On a Windows XP system, the Notepad editor should display the files with line breaks.) - Why are not the models I would like available?
In many cases the MARCS code does not converge to the desired accuracy, or it crashes during the execution. We do not have the time to check all such cases. The hot, low-gravity stars do not converge because they are not stable; the surface fluxes are too high, "super-Eddington" luminosities. We have a limited time for maintaining this data base, but we plan to add models as they are documented and computed.
